Inbuilt vs External Window Grilles

If you want grilles, the choice is mainly inbuilt versus external. Here's how they differ.

Inbuilt grilles

Integrated into the window — either a grid within the glazing or a fixed internal grille. Nothing protrudes, nothing rusts or needs painting, and the look stays clean. Security is moderate.

External grilles

A robust grille mounted over the outside. Stronger physical security, but more visible, and depending on material may need upkeep over the years.

The trade-off

It comes down to security versus looks and upkeep. External grilles win on raw security; inbuilt grilles win on clean appearance and zero maintenance. Ground-floor windows often favour external; upper floors favour inbuilt or none.

Questions

Do inbuilt grilles reduce security?

They offer moderate security with a tidy look. For strong physical security on accessible windows, external grilles are sturdier.
