uPVC French Doors in Coimbatore

French doors are the floor-to-ceiling version of French windows — paired glazed leaves opening from the center, giving a wide symmetric opening to a balcony, terrace, or garden. They're the most architecturally elegant door style available in uPVC, particularly when paired with traditional Indian home design or colonial architecture. Glassterr manufactures uPVC French doors at our Pannimadai factory in widths from 5 to 8 feet total, with optional Georgian-bar grids for the classic divided-light look. The leaves are usually fully glazed (toughened safety glass) but can also be half-glazed for a more traditional look. Multi-point locking on the active leaf, shoot bolts on the passive leaf.

In plain terms

What this means

Construction is the same as French windows but at door height. Two side-hung leaves hinge outward (or inward) and meet at the center. The active leaf carries the main multi-point lock; the passive leaf has shoot bolts top and bottom. The center join uses an astragal moulding on the passive leaf with gasket compression from the active leaf. Glazing is typically full-leaf — top to bottom toughened glass — with optional Georgian bars adding the divided-light look either externally on the glass or sandwiched between glazing layers. The threshold detail at the floor is critical for monsoon performance.

Questions

Common buyer questions

French doors vs sliding doors — when to choose which?

French doors when the look matters most — formal living rooms, dining rooms, balconies you want to feel like a destination. Sliding when practicality matters most — daily-use rooms, narrower openings, or where outward swing is constrained. French doors are more architecturally distinctive; sliding is more functional.

Do French doors seal well in the monsoon?

Yes when properly built and fitted. The center join needs continuous gasket compression, the frame perimeter needs continuous weatherstrip, and the threshold needs to drain water outward. We engineer all three. Properly installed French doors handle Coimbatore monsoon reliably.

Can I get traditional-looking French doors in uPVC?

Yes — with Georgian-bar grids and a woodgrain finish (like dark oak), uPVC French doors give a remarkably traditional look. The bars can be externally fitted on the glass (most authentic look) or sandwiched between glazing (easier to clean). We'll show samples at measurement.

How much do uPVC French doors cost?

Typically ₹50,000-1,20,000 for a 6-7ft pair, depending on glazing, hardware, finish, and any decorative elements. Georgian bars add ₹5,000-12,000. Woodgrain finish adds 15-20%. Double-glazing adds 40-60%.

Can French doors open inward instead of outward?

Yes — both configurations are available. Outward is more common because it doesn't intrude on furniture; inward is sometimes preferred when external swing space is tight. We discuss which works for your specific opening at measurement.
