A sliding door is what most Coimbatore homes use to connect a living or dining room to a balcony, terrace, or back garden. Glassterr manufactures uPVC sliding doors at our Pannimadai factory — full-height glazed panels that slide along a bottom track, opening the room up to outside without taking up any swing space. We size to your opening, build with steel-reinforced profile, fit branded rollers sized to the panel weight, and install with proper threshold sealing for the monsoon. Common configurations are 2-panel, 3-panel, and 4-panel; larger spans typically move to a slide-and-fold (bifold) system instead.
A uPVC sliding door is structurally a much larger and heavier version of a sliding window. The panels are floor-to-ceiling (or near it), the glass is typically 8-12mm toughened, and the rollers are sized for panel weights of 40-80 kg each. The track sits at floor level, with the top frame carrying weatherstripping. Most Coimbatore installations use a 2-panel configuration (one slides, one fixed) for openings 5-8 ft wide, or 3-panel (two slide over a central fixed) for 8-12 ft. Above that, slide-and-fold makes more sense because sliding only gives you 50% clear opening even with multiple panels.
Single-panel sliders go up to about 4 ft wide; 2-panel up to 8 ft; 3-panel up to about 12 ft. Beyond that, slide-and-fold (bifold) systems make more sense because sliding only gives you 50% clear opening regardless of how many panels you add.
Yes if correctly built and fitted. The threshold detail matters most — water needs to drain outward away from the room, weatherstrip needs to be continuous, and the wall-to-frame seal needs to be properly caulked. We do all three. Where doors fail in monsoon, the failure is almost always installation, not the door itself.
A typical 4ft × 7ft sliding panel with 10mm toughened glass weighs around 65 kg. The wall structure supporting the door head needs to be load-bearing or have a proper RCC lintel — we'll assess this during measurement and let you know if any reinforcement is needed before fitting.
Yes — an additional mesh track works the same way as on sliding windows. The mesh panel slides separately. We build the frame for it from the start; retrofitting later is usually messier.
Per-square-foot, sliding doors cost about 30-40% more than equivalent-spec sliding windows because of the heavier profile, larger rollers, thicker glass, and harder installation. A 7ft × 8ft 2-panel sliding door is typically ₹45,000-75,000 depending on spec.
